Financial and Manufacturing Operations Controller
Description
- Supervise internal accounting resources (AP, AR, payroll, GST/QST, reconciliations)
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and rigor of financial data
- Participate in month-end closings and the preparation of annual financial statements
- Manage relationships with external auditors
- Monitor liquidity and cash flow forecasts
- Oversee bank accounts and financial requirements
- Participate in budget planning and produce financial projections
- Support the CEO in strategic decision-making
Costing, Procurement, and Inventory
- Structure and maintain costing models (BOM, machine time, materials, subcontracting, overhead)
- Identify margin variances and analyze profitability by product/project
- Support pricing decisions
- Analyze supplier spend and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Participate in the negotiation and structuring of purchases
- Reduce inventory surpluses and stockouts
- Implement procurement and manufacturing KPIs
Management, Performance, and Continuous Improvement
- Prepare financial analyses and dashboards for management
- Develop performance indicators (manufacturing, procurement, financial)
- Automate administrative and financial processes
- Streamline management tools
- Implement best practices for manufacturing SMEs
Required Skills
- Autonomy, strong sense of priorities, and a solution-oriented mindset
- Clear and effective communication with diverse profiles — engineers, production teams, accounting, and management
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
- Comfortable working on the shop floor and understanding the operational realities of manufacturing
- Ability to read and interpret production data (time, yields, scrap) without losing sight of the overall financial picture
- Ability to model financial scenarios, simulate impacts, and generate concrete, decision-oriented recommendations
Required Qualifications
- University degree in accounting
- At least five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment (ideally within an SME)
- Ability to produce financial statements, budgets, and cash flow forecasts
- Expertise in manufacturing costing (BOM, standard costs, variance analysis)
- Knowledge of procurement and inventory management processes
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and dashboard tools (Power BI, etc.)
- Knowledge of an ERP system (Acomba, Sage, NetSuite, SAP, or other)
- Solid understanding of Quebec taxation (GST/QST, payroll)
